United Hands of Hope (UHOH) is a not-for-profit organization serving rural communities in Jamaica.
Through our organization, we identify opportunities to give back to the less fortunate among us. Giving back is very important not only to the growth and development of humanity but there’s nothing more rewarding than making a marked difference in the lives of people who require social support to better themselves.
Our Board of Directors provides strategic direction to the organization enabling it to meet its objectives. The Board is headed by the Founder, Reverend Wellesley Blair, and Chairman, Mr. Katus Watson. The other members of the board include Tawana Gray, Yvonne Blair, Veon Moodie, Beverly Blair-Morris, Josette Benjamin and Ainsley Blair.
The initiatives of UHOH are carried out by a dedicated group of volunteers who are themselves passionate about Jamaica, the development of the education sector, and the alleviation of poverty through empowerment.
Our mission is two-fold;
- Promote and encourage the improvement and advancement of education in Jamaica.
- Partner with donors to generate resources needed to make an impact in the lives of children, particularly in rural Jamaica.
In 2010, our Founder Reverend Wellesley A. Blair envisioned developing a better Jamaica through helping the less fortunate.
In defining what success would look like, UHOH undertook an initiative to identify a target group and evaluate the many ways that the identified target group required support. The need to address education emerged as the root problem and the goal since then has been to find solutions to address this and related issues.
UHOH will focus on the empowerment of the youth which will provide long-term transformational effects on the overall economic, social, and infrastructural development of the nation.
ALL children deserve an equal opportunity to succeed. Education is the single greatest equalizer and the key that unlocks the door to success. There is more than enough evidence that suggests that too many children, through no fault of their own, aren’t getting the education that is vital to their intellectual and social development. This is evident in the continuing inequality and marginalization of children living in underserved communities. We are therefore passionately committed to doing our part to correct this.
Together with our partners, we will invest in basic and primary schools in rural Jamaica to ensure they have the right resources and ideal learning environment.
